It’s abnormally Spring in Milwaukee. The snow is gone not that we had any to speak of this Winter. Global warming. Three cheers! I went to the dog park

If this weather keeps up things will green up, but for know, the plants know we have some winter to come.

Three friends.

Non-Winter in Mequon

February 18, 2012 | Category: Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

This has been an oddly dry and warm Winter here in Wisconsin. Total snow for the season is under six inches. I’ve run the snow blower twice and that was a formality.

Walking through the pines to avoid the very muddy trail at the dog park. Be sure to vist my dodpark page.

If you can remember the 70′s its because you carried a NIKON.

That’s the caption for this picture, which I submitted to Nikonians for this month’s photo contest The only requirement was that the image feature NIKON product.

Rejected

November 9, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

The Milwaukee Art Museum is holding a photo contest in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Calatrava designed Quadracci Center. I took this picture of my son Rusty in front of a light sculpture.

It was rejected because it violates the artists copyright, which is forbidden in the contest rules. They did opine that it was a “lovely image”.

Here’s one that they accepted:

And another.

So they want postcards, they get postcards. Regarding artist’s copyright? Some other time.

Fall is Turning to Winter

October 19, 2011 | Category: Lakescapes | 1 Comment

Cold wind and rain squalls coming off the lake. A sure sign that winter is not far away.  On a day like today you can have the entire beach to yourself.

Labor Day Nostalgia

September 7, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

Labor Day weekend always brings drag racing to my mind. This is when the NHRA US Nationals, the major event in all of drag racing is held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. All the really big time racers are there along with the diehard fans so  every other strip in the country is running hometown sportsman style events.  Now, Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove WI  (Da Grove) is half way between Milwaukee and Chicago so the term hometown sportsman covers a lot of ground demographically.

This is an HDR of a shot taken in the pits at the Time Machine Nationals.  Dragsters, Altereds, Gassers, Funny Cars, you name it. Some really beautiful iron from the sixties and seventies. Click here or click Da Grove on the top menu for more images.

We’re enjoying some nice weather and today there is little wind so its nice for long exposures and small apertures.

These are Beebalm flowers that grow well in shade and sun. I think they are considered a weed by most “rose” people. Beebalm do spread like crazy and require no attention and Humming Birds like them.

The nexr shot is a closeup of a late blooming Yellow Lilly bud that is in shade in the early morning. There was total calm so I could get multiple exposures for an HDR without introducing motion blur.

The HDR gives it the pop I was looking for. An 80mm Macro lens from my 35mm collection gives it the short depth of field bokeh that’s popular.

Please visit the Flowers in My Yard page listed on the top of the page for a few new images.

Summer Rain

June 10, 2011 | Category: Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

After a couple of weeks without rain and a couple of blisteringly hot days we were treated to an inch of rain and a cold front. Its only 52 deg. today after reaching 101F on Wednesday. I’ll take cold and rainy any day.

As soon as the sun breaks through we’ll have lots of flowers and even more bugs.

They may take over the world.
